RE: Historical Commission demolition review, 66 and 70 Paradise Road
Dear Karla:
In accordance with Chapter 161 of the Northampton Ordinance, "Demolition," the Northampton
Historical Commission evaluated the structures at 66 and 70 Paradise Road for which zoning permit
demolition applications were filed with the building department. Enclosed please find notification of the
Commission's determination of Significance. The Commission did not find 69 Paradise Road significant,
so a demolition permit can be issued.
The Commission will now hold a public hearing to determine whether the buildings are "Preferably
Preserved," and whether a demolition delay should be implemented. This hearing is scheduled for July
29, 2013 in the City Hall Room 18, 210 Main Street. A determination as to whether the structures should
be Preferably Preserved must be made within fourteen days of the hearing.
A `Public Notice' sign must be posted at each property at least one week prior to the hearing. These signs
are available in the Office of Planning and Sustainability, and can be picked up at any time during
business hours. The enclosed legal ad must be placed in the pocket on the sign.
Section 161-5 D of the Ordinance lists some evidence that the Commission might consider when making
its determination of Preferably Preserved status. These include, but aren't limited to, the buildings'
condition, age, role in the streetscape, and construction elements. It would be helpful if you could provide
any information you think would be useful for the Commission to review. If these are provided to me the
week prior to the hearing, they will be included in packets for members to review in advance.
Please let me know if I can provide any assistance prior to the hearing, or if you have any questions or
concerns.
Thank you-
