I intended to send you some information with these images. This is the 22 x 24 free standing garage I mentioned to you. We will use your prescriptive method for the gable end, and Chuck Miller is familiar with that. He won't need detailed engineering on the garage.. However, even though this is not Kansas, he's concerned about uplift on the roof connector, and I'm thinking some simple connectors at the top and tie downs at the bottom of the posts under the beams (in yellow) will take care of that. Call me when you get a chance. We're pouring concrete the middle of next week in case we need some fasteners in the foundation. Hi Nelson and Casey. I have attached the APA detail for the braced wall details around the garage doors. Casey, page 2 has the main details to follow and page 5 shows the corner detail for the studs. Note the header goes all the way to the corners. I typically do not spec the steel strap because the plywood nailed at 3" o.c. almost always has enough capacity. Install 2 — /2 "x 12" anchor bolts in the three 2' wall sections on the garage door side of the building. Also, when I am spec'ing out the detail I typically call for a double sill plate to provide a double row of nailing which I have found to be necessary to get enough nailing capacity for the required bracing. Note; you need to have the anchor bolt extend up through both sill plates when using a double sill, also note the size of the washer, 2 "x2 "x 3/16 ". In terms of a hold down option for the connector roof, the 10' long roof beam can be 2- 2x10's and if you can have the beam come under the top plate of the garage wall, or notch the beam to fit under the top plate, the plywood sheathing nailed to the top plate is more than enough to hold down the beam and then just use your typical rafter tie -downs to the beams. I suggest installing the anchor bolts at 4' o.c. on the garage walls that don't have the over head doors.
