INVENTORY FORMB CONTINUATION SHEET [NORTHAMPTON] [30MUNROE STREET] MASSACHUSETTS HISTORICAL COMMISSION Area(s) Form No. 220MORRISSEY BOULEVARD, BOSTON,MASSACHUSETTS 02125 Continuation
sheet 1 NTH.1021 __x_ Recommended for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. If checked, you must attach a completed National Register Criteria Statement form. Use as much
space as necessary to complete the following entries, allowing text to flow onto additional continuation sheets. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Describe architectural features. Evaluate
the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. This is a two-and-a-half story Italianate style home with an “L” shaped plan that results in two
cross gables. In the crook of the “L” is a three-story entry tower which is topped by a hip roof with four gabled dormers and bracketed eaves. At the location of this tower is the front
entry porch with square posts with solid brackets that rest on high pedestals. The home has narrow Italianate style one over one sash replacement windows that are in singles, pairs,
or triples. These windows have flat stock surrounds and projecting cornices. Another Italianate style feature is the two-story paneled bay on the western elevation of the home. On the
eastern elevation of the home, attached to the “L”, is a shallow two story bay with recessed corners on the first story. At first glance, this appears out of character with the Italianate
style, but this feature was executed on other Italianate style homes in this area of Northampton. There have been several rear additions to the home including a screened porch off the
western elevation. There is one brick chimney on the home’s slate roof. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history.
Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. From Form B of 1980: “This residence with tower and gables was built between 1877 and
1884 for Sarah Currier, who acquired the land in two parcels from Sarah Janes in 1877 and 1882.” BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES Beers, F. W. County Atlas of Hampshire Massachusetts,
