sheet 1 NTH.1014 _X__ Recommended for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. If checked, you must attach a completed National Register Criteria Statement form. Use as much
space as necessary to complete the following entries, allowing text to flow onto additional continuation sheets. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Describe architectural features. Evaluate
the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. This is a two-story Italianate brick barn with asphalt gable roof broken by a peaked wall gable
in the northern slope of the roof. This building was converted from a barn to a residence at some point prior to 1976. The building underwent extensive remodeling in 2002. At this time,
the owners added a large one story wing that extends off the northern elevation of the main block, which substantially increased the living space. Windows on the main block are segmentally
arched and are mostly 2/2 sash, which complements the Italianate style home at 39 Lyman Street that the building once belonged to. Beneath the peaked wall gable is a paired segmentally
arched window that is 1/1 sash. There is a tall brick chimney on the southern slope of the roof. All other historic details have been covered by the construction of the new addition.
As a barn or residence, this building appears stylistically out of character with surrounding homes due to its brick cladding and small height. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history
of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. From Form B of
1976, “A well built brick barn, now a residence, once part of the homestead of Horace Lamb who lived at the adjacent home at 39 Lyman Road. Lamb built a bracketed residence on the corner
of, Lyman Road and East Street about 1870, having purchased the land from Alfred Starkweather, a major landowner on Fort Hill who in the 1870s sold tracts of land off South Street. The
area to the rear of the colonial homesteads was developed as Munroe, East, and Columbus Streets.” BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES Beers, F. W. County Atlas of Hampshire Massachusetts,
