sheet 1 NTH.42 ___ Recommended for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. If checked, you must attach a completed National Register Criteria Statement form. Use as much
space as necessary to complete the following entries, allowing text to flow onto additional continuation sheets. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Describe architectural features. Evaluate
the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. This two-story, Italianate style house has a side gable roof with a centered cross-gable. The roof
has wide, thinly boxed eaves and in the gable fields are Gothic style pointed arches. The house is five bays and the equivalent of three bays deep and in the center bay of the east façade
is a pair of doorways leading to the two halves of the house. The asphalt shingle roof shows covered openings where once were a pair of chimneys and a porch has been lost and replaced
on the east by a deck. Windows are 1/1 replacements. The house is under restoration currently. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with
local (or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. From Form B of 1980: “John and Charlotte Cordery bought an acre
of land from John Tunnicliff in 1870. The land was situated in the rear of Tunnicliff’s homestead on Florence Street, and backed up to the railroad between Northampton and Williamsburg.
John Cordery is listed as a farmer in the local directory.” According to the current owner, the house was bought by the Corticelli Silk Company and converted to a two-family house as
were a number of houses in the area when the Company needed housing for its workers. BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES Beers, F. W. County Atlas of Hampshire Massachusetts, New York, 1873.
