space as necessary to complete the following entries, allowing text to flow onto additional continuation sheets. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Describe architectural features. Evaluate
the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. This is two-and-a-half story American Foursquare in the Colonial Revival style. The home has a
hipped roof with a through-cornice hipped roof dormer on the front slope and a brick chimney at its center. The corners of the home are accentuated by narrow fluted pilasters and a wide
frieze runs along the cornice. Typical of homes from this era, the house has a full width front porch. The porch has a low-pitched roof, fluted square columns, balustrade with fine square
balusters, and a lattice apron. The house has vertical six over one sash windows that are somewhat hidden behind metal storm windows. Next to the front entry, there is large picture
window. On the western elevation of the home, there is a shallow wing that is one bay wide. The property also includes a small front gable shed. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history
of the building. Explain its associations with local (or state) history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the owners/occupants played within the community. From Form B of
1980: “Arthur Tidd purchased lot no. 27 of the Columbus Avenue subdivision in 1905. The subdivision had been filed in 1892, and development had begun immediately. By 1895, seven houses
had been built on the northern side of the street, while only two had been constructed on the southern side. Lots on the southern side of the street, east of East Street were not developed
until after the turn of the century. Lot 27 is the southeasternmost lot in the development and is located at the brow of the old Mill River terrace. The meadows stretch easterly from
here to the Connecticut River. Arthur Tidd was employed as a carpenter for Smith College in 1905, but subsequently began a jobbing business on his own. He is listed as a carpenter and
