Shaws Significant LetterNORTHAMPTON HISTORICAL COMMISSION CITY HALL 210 MAIN STREET NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS 01060 CITY HALL William Fenno Pratt Architect, 1849 November 15, 2012 Harold Fitzgerald 37 Mary Jane Lane Northampton MA, o1o6o RE: Historical Commission demolition review, `Shaw's Motel,' 87 Bridge Street Dear Mr. Fitzgerald: In accordance with Chapter 161 of the Northampton Ordinance, "Demolition," the Northampton Historical Commission evaluated the structure at 87 Bridge Street for which you filed a zoning permit demolition application with the building inspector. Enclosed please find notification of the Commission's determination of Significance. These were provided to the Building Inspector today. The Commission will now hold a public hearing to determine whether the building is "Preferably Preserved," and whether a demolition delay should be implemented. This hearing is set for November 26 at 5:30 pm, in the City Hall Hearing Room, 210 Main Street. A determination as to whether the structure should be Preferably Preserved must be made within fourteen days of the hearing. A `Public Notice' sign must be posted at the property. These signs are available in the Office of Plan ring and Development, and can be picked up at any time during business hours. The enclosed legal ad must be placed in the pocket on the sign. Section 161 -5 D of the Ordinance lists some evidence that the Commission might consider when making its determination of Preferably Preserved status. These include, but aren't limited to, the buildings' condition, age, role in the streetscape, and construction elements. It would be helpful if you could provide any information you think would be useful for the Commission to review. If these are provided to me the week prior to the hearing, they will be included in packets for members to review in advance. Please let me know if I can provide any assistance prior to the hearing, or if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you- Sar I.
