The Hampshire Regional YMCA at 286 Prospect Street is an existing building with two stories above grade level and a partial basement which is the lowest level of exit discharge. The existing fire alarm system is addressable and provides partial smoke /heat coverage, sprinkler monitoring, and general audible/visual notification. Reporting is provided via digital communications direct to the Fire Department as well as to a U.L. Listed Central Station. The building is presently classified as Use Group A3 per the 7th Edition 780 CMR pg 49, Sec 303.1 (3). Per pg 236 sec 907.2.1 a fire protective signaling system is required. Per pg 236 sec 907.2.1.1. a voice evacuation system is required. 2. Applicable laws, regulations, and standards. • 7th Edition 780 CMR • 780 CMR 907 Required • NFPA 72 2007 Edition • Northampton Fire Department 2007 guidelines 3. The present system will be brought back on line with repairs including replacement of devices damaged by the recent fire. 4. The following changes, additions, and upgrades will be implemented and completed by January 1, 2010; • Provide additional smoke or heat coverage in the basement, locker room areas, and gym /pool corridors. • Upgrade the fire alarm control panel with voice evacuation. • Change all existing horn /strobes to speaker strobes. • Add speakers and strobes to areas not presently covered. • Add manual pull stations within 5 feet of all exit doors not presently covered • Provide an electronic graphic annunciator panel next to the Fire Alarm Control Panel per Northampton Fire Department requirements.
