Project Description 1. a. Area Description (use additional paper, if necessary): 811 North King Street consists of MassDOT- District 2 Administration building, driveway, parking area, grass side slopes and areas of wetlands. There are no NHESP habitat areas, FEMA flood zones, or environmental areas of concern in the Droiect area. c. Work Description (use additional paper and /or provide plan(s) of work, if necessary): The proposed work consists of installing a six inch water main (for Fire Sprinkler System) within the southerly driveway to the MassDOT Administration Building. All excavation work associated with the water main installation will be performed within the existing curblines. The curbs lining both sides of the driveway have a reveal of approximately 7 inches. Open trench excavation will be performed in accordance with the current Northampton Water Department Standards for water line installation. The bituminous concrete pavement will be sawcut, excavated and removed from the site. Two parallel pavement cuts, T -6" apart will delineate the limits of the trench. Pavement and soil will be removed to the specified depth (aprox. 4' -5'). Spoil piles will be located adjacent to the trench, but within the limits of the curblines of the driveway (Please refer to to the Utility Limits Map for the limits of work). Upon completion of the pipe installation, the trench will be backfilled using the existing excavated spoils, compacted per Department standards and then resurfaced with HMA. The driveway will be swept clean of any /all debris and sediment. The two existing catch basins shall be protected with silt sacks or other form of protection such as filter fabric, to prevent sediment from entering the system. Any potential groundwater encountered during excavation shall be pumped to a silt bag or sedimentation basin, to be placed within the upland lawn area as shown on the plans. Discharge will then flow though the lawn area in order to provide additional treatment. As necessary, Mulch Filter Tubes can be installed as additional erosion control measures behind the northerly sidewalk and along the southerly curbline. The work shall be scheduled so as to aviod any rain event. Maintenance of such structures or areas is allowed (including any activity which maintains a structure, roads (limited to repairs, resurfacing, replacing, but not enlargement) clearing, landscaping, etc. in its existing condition) without the filing of a Notice of Intent for work within the riverfront area, but not when such work is within other resource areas of their buffer zones..... It is expected that work will not remove, fill. dredge or alter any resource area. 3. a.
