2010-07-14 PTC MinutesMinutes Public Transportation Committee 7/14/10 Present: John Norton, Alex Ghiselin, Laura Hanson of DPW, David Elvin of PVPC, Jamin Carroll of VATCO, and Leslie Stein Public Comment: none Minutes of 6/9/10 were approved with a correction to comments made by David Elvin about future rail service and some corrections to spelling. Transit Goals from Sustainability Plan Process for bus stop siognage: Jamin Carroll reported that he has not had a response from the PVTA office. Jamin and Leslie Stein will contact Nicole Rohan about this so the committee can move forward with this proposal to Parking and Transportation. Old Business Need for changes in Academy of Music and Main/Masonic stops: The committee discussed the need for changes in the Main /Masonic Street bus stop that they had reviewed with Bill Letendre, the Parking Manager at our April meeting. Jamin Carroll and David Elvin reported that they looked at the suggested site of State Street for the bus stop and concluded that it was not feasible as the street is too narrow and a bus stopping there would block the flow of traffic. The sidewalk is also too narrow for a shelter and would not be visible for riders looking for a stop on Main Street. The committee discussed some data and drawings of the Main /Masonic Street bus stop that David Elvin presented. They agreed that moving the stop back to the intersection in front of the church with the taking of one parking space would be the best option. Jamin Carroll and David Elvin will measure /review the site for a shelter and develop a proposal that Leslie Stein can review with Bill Letendre before the Parking and Transportation meeting in August. New Business: David Elvin reported that PVPC will be updating their Regional Transit Plan in September as they do every four years. They want to have comments from transit stakeholders, so David will let us know when the date is set for the public meeting. Jamin Carroll reported that some people are using the new stop /shelter in Florence while others are still boarding the bus at Bird's.
