50 municipalities throughout the Commonwealth. We have 6 registered landscape architects (and 7 total) and 2 professional engineers (4 total) on our staff of fifteen. The majority of
the park projects are public projects that our office has taken from conception through construction. Our indepth project experience includes everything from state parks to skateboard
parks, playgrounds to passive recreation areas. We know parks and recreation!
The Berkshire Design Group – Florence Fields Recreation Area Proposal 4 Budget Awareness The reason for the continued success of Berkshire Design Group is the firm’s policy and practice
of not compromising the design of a project because of budget constraints. Instead we find innovative ways to construct the most attractive and feasible design within the given budget.
We further insure working within our given budget by producing plans and specifications that are done thoroughly and in detail. This allows the contractors to give accurate and competitive
bids for the project, while assuring the highest quality of materials and workmanship. The key personnel of our project team have extensive experience in construction cost estimating
and also in construction project management, assuring the following: • Cost estimates will be accurate because we maintain and continually update our estimated construction costs using
figures from contractors working on similar projects within similar regions. • The final material selected for construction will be easy to maintain, thus minimizing maintenance costs
and helping assure the long-term success of this important public playground. Westford Recreation Area Master Plan

Dept. of Public Works
The Berkshire Design Group – Florence Fields Recreation Area Proposal 15 We will design of a stormwater management system in compliance with the City of Northampton Stormwater Management
Ordinance. In general, the Northampton Stormwater Management Ordinance requires that a stormwater management system be designed in conformance with the latest Massachusetts Department
of Environmental Protection Stormwater Management Regulations. To accomplish this goal a system of structural and non-structural stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be designed
to meet the requirements of the regulations. These BMPs will be designed with careful consideration to the overall site aesthetics, functionality, and long term maintenance impacts.
Task Include: • Evaluation of existing conditions including initial site visit and determination of existing stormwater flow patterns, rates, and volumes. • Conceptual Design for determination
of Soil Evaluation (Test Pit) locations • Coordinate and perform soil evaluations • Design stormwater management system based on soil evaluation results and project design goals • Prepare
and submit a stormwater managemement report and permit application to the Northampton DPW • Respond to DPW comments, if required • Evaluate final permit issued by the DPW and assist
City in interrupting the permit requirements • Florence Fields Recreation Area – view of entrance drive off Spring Street
The Berkshire Design Group – Florence Fields Recreation Area Proposal 16 Task 4 – Construction Documents: 100% Bid Plans and Specifications Based on the approved final site plan/design
development drawings and order of conditions from the Northampton Conservation Commission we will prepare a set of construction drawings, technical specifications and bid documents for
solicitation of public bids. Final drawings will contain the level of detail necessary to allow contractors accurate estimating and bid documents will contain all necessary bidding information
to conform with all state requirements for this project. Construction drawings of the proposed improvements will include the following: • cover sheet • overall site plan • existing condition
plan • demolition plan • grading and drainage plan • layout plan • planting plan • details • specifications • bid forms We will also prepare the final cost estimate of the construction
documents. The cost estimate shall be based on current prices for similar work in the park development industry. The cost estimate will contain all labor, materials and supervision necessary
to complete all work according to prevailing wage rates, and should be an accurate prediction to their awarded contract price. After meeting with the City we will also create a phasing
plan including a number of bid cycles and associated costs.
The Berkshire Design Group – Florence Fields Recreation Area Proposal 17 Project Schedule The time schedule below outlines the estimated time required to accomplish each phase of the
project. The project schedule is flexible and can be accelerated if requested Notice to Proceed Nov. 2010 Kick-off Meeting Nov. 2010 25% Bid Plans & Specs. Jan. 2011 Community Meeting

Firm Description The Berkshire Design Group, Inc. is an award-winning firm of landscape architects, civil engineers and land surveyors specializing in park and recreation design, site
planning and commercial development. We creatively find the extra dimensions inherent in all design problems and navigate our clients through the maze of regulations and permitting to
get projects constructed on time. We provide our clients with a complete range of design and engineering services and have the management skills necessary to coordinate diverse projects
and collaborative professional teams. Great design and quality control are our primary objectives so we integrate computer technology into all phases of the design process from viewing
a design’s visual impact to producing clear construction documents. There are many reasons to hire The Berkshire Design Group: We see the big picture: Understanding a community and the
environmental, political and economic challenges that define a project are essential skills that we possess. We employ an early consensus building process to help weave the design of
your project into the community so that it contributes to the long-term quality of life. We know the process: The Berkshire Design Group knows how to guide clients through the permitting
and regulatory process with federal and state agencies, local planning boards, conservation commissions and other municipal boards. Our designs respond to these constraints so that your
project is approved in a minimal amount of time. We practice environmentally sensitive design: Designing for a sustainable future is a hallmark of our firm’s approach to projects. From

Group, Inc. from other firms is our expertise in computer aided design (CAD) and visualization techniques. Because good design and quality control are our primary objectives, we have
integrated computer technology into all phases of the design process, from conceptual design to the generation of final construction documents using CAD, three dimensional modeling,
image editing, animation, and interactive multi-media presentations. Computer Aided Design Computer aided design is used for design, the preparation of construction documents and the
registration of three dimensional models with site photographs . We believe that our approach to the use of CAD as a three dimensional design tool rather than just a two dimensional
drafting tool allows us to improve design quality. Our CAD system allows us to provide alternative designs to an extent and level of accuracy never before possible. More alternatives
based on accurate site and design program information results in a better design product for the client. Tolland State Forest, Otis/Tolland, Massachusetts

are entered into the computer as a three dimensional database. This allows clients to see three dimensional models of designs early on in a project to facilitate decision making. Simulated
walk-throughs can be created and design alternatives may be viewed from any perspective. The image to the left is an eye level view of the proposed Engineering Student Center at the

4 Allen Place Northampton, MA 01060 Telephone (413) 582-7000 Facsimile (413) 582-7005 E-mail bdg@berkshiredesign.com Image Editing Another capability of The Berkshire Design Group is
image editing. We can scan color photos and capture video images into the computer and save them in a digital form. We use this technology for site analysis, conceptual design, and for
the presentation of final design ideas. The tool is extremely valuable for public presentations so that people can visualize what a particular design alternative will look like before
construction. The images shown are existing site photographs that were scanned into the computer. Photographs of proposed improvements such as paving patterns, trees, benches and even
buildings were scanned into the computer to create a library of landscape amenities. Images are merged producing a photorealistic scene. Design Techniques City Hall Plaza, Pittsfield,

mClient Remarks “As I have said on several occasions, ‘Working with The Berkshire Design Group has spoiled me.’ My experience with BDG has resulted in my adopting high standards for
evaluating and choosing other design consultants. I have been impressed with your ability to communicate with lay people and sensitivity to the varieties of opinions and personalities
encountered while working with municipal volunteers and community people. Your patience with these people, and more particularly bureaucrats is especially laudable.” Ms. Wendy Foxmyn,
Administrative Assistant Huntington, Massachusetts “The hotel has received a very warm reception from the community, which otherwise showed a strong dislike for development. I believe
this is due in a larger part to the special feeling that was created in the atrium. Your ability to interface the landscape design with the interior needs as well as the architectural
intent created an almost ideal lobby space for our hotel and a unique addition to our entire hotel chain.” Mr. John Lyons, Project Manager Hyatt Development Corporation, Chicago, Illinois
“. . . thank you for a job well done. The Campus Master Plan will be a valuable tool in charting the school’s future.” Mr. Richard C. Andriole, Business Manager Eaglebrook School, Deerfield,
Massachusetts “As the project coordinator I must say that without a design firm as dedicated as BDG our vision of a design which really belonged to the Town might easily have become
cluttered with the details and distractions of administering a program . . . Without your careful work and constant attention we would have had a much more difficult time turning plans
to pride. Your willingness to extend your professional services and advice to us well beyond the call of contract made our Common.” Mr. Jay DiPuccio, Project Coordinator Town of Leyden,
Massachusetts
Client Remarks “I would like to express the appreciation of the entire Board of Directors in your important contribution — personally and corporately — to both the satisfactions and
pleasures which surround life at The Lathrop Community. The expert combination of architectural style and the landscaped vistas contribute a sense of grace that enhances the quality
of life of the residents of the community.” Mr. Donald M. Houghton, President The Lathrop Community, Northampton, Massachusetts “During the early planning stages, your professional approach
to acting as catalyst with the Committee served to articulate a variety of concepts into a design which reflected the value of the public process . . . Your approach made them comfortable
enough to know their input was desired and respected. Your willingness to be available, and your flexibility to meet our needs are, in our experience, without peer.” Board of Selectman
Leyden, Massachusetts “In addition to providing a comprehensive master plan, Berkshire Design Group also agreed to offer a weekly seminar in planning and design. This imaginative arrangement
netted the college not only a seminal planning document, but also a highly popular course offering.” Gregory Prince, President Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts
