Clark, G. Clark, Lockwood, Murdock, Parker, Stephens Ex Officio: Berkley Excused: Bloomberg, Quesnell 1. Minutes approved. 2. Awards: Gage, Kiteley, Lincoln, The Chair urged members to prepare further nominations for awards. 3. Historic District Study Committee: The Committee has prepared a preliminary report on identification of Historic Districts. 4. House Dating Program: A new brochure is in preparation. 5. Scenic Roads: Mary Parker and Marcia Berkley met with DPW to discuss the proposed list of roads. Sam Brindis, DPW Department Head will give comments to Historical Commission within a few months. The DPW will try to limit street width to no more than twenty - four feet. The list of Scenic Road nominations offered by the Historical Commission will be screened by the Conservation Committee, the Planning Board and the City Council. Minutes of Meeting January 8, 1991 Page #2 6. Berkshire Gas Route: The Commission voted to urge the Company to locate excavation on open sides of streets. This applies particularly to the west side of North Elm abutting 5t. Mary's Cemetery. 7. Budget: The Commission voted to request $1,000 for Fiscal Year 1991 citing the need for updating the Inventory and preparing a new index. Clark, Gage, Kiteley, Lincoln, Parker, Stephens Excused: Lockwood, Murdock, Quesnell, C. Clark 1. Minutes: Approved 2. Awards: Delete 102 Washington Avenue, restoration unfinished. Because there is so little building this year, the Commission discussed postponing awards until 1992. No decision. 3. Massachusetts Historical Commission Grant: The Northampton Historical Commission has applied for a Survey and Planning Grant of $3,000 to update the Inventory of Historic and Architecturally Significant Properties. 4. Committee on Public Arts: The Committee is considering a mural.in the foyer of Memorial Hall. There was discussion of the height of the railroad over -pass mural in relation to the vista from Main Street. Since it is in the Historic District, the mural must be approved by the Historic District Commission. 5. Archaeological Survey of Northampton: It is hoped that such a survey can be undertaken next year. Next meeting will be held: Tuesday, April 2 1991 Please note: A Public Hearing will be held regarding the Berkshire Gas Company's gas line. This hearing will be held Tuesday, March 12, 1991 - 7:00 p.m. at the Northampton High School Little Theatre. Berkley * *Please note location change! /jad 3/25/91 NORTHAMPTON HISTORICAL COMMISSION r MINUTES OF MEETING April 2, 1991 Meeting was called to order at 4:15 p.m. Members present: Mary Parker, Cecil Clark, Allison Lockwood, Gordon Clark, Mary Elizabeth Murdock, John Bowman, also present: Councillor Jim Brooks, Marcia Berkley. Minutes were approved unanimously. Mary Parker advised the Committee that Eleanor Lincoln is in Cooley Dickinson Hospital. Historic District Study Committee M. Berkley advised members that the Preliminary Report has been completed and Public Hearings are scheduled for April 23, 7:00 p.m. and May 1, 4:00 p.m. Committee members were encouraged to attend. Scenic Roads George Andrikidis attended the meeting and advised members of.'DPW concerns on this proposal. The DPW is concerned about extra steps when there is a need to do work in a public roadway. George encourages the Commission to outline the specific parameters that _) are being recommended and to clarify the specific criteria. M. Berkley suggests that scenic roads be incorporated into the Strategic Plan. George and the Committee agree this makes the most sense. Committee on Public Arts M. Berkley reported that the decision has been narrowed down to two entries. Allison Lockwood advised members of the plans to do murals at Memorial Hall. M. Berkley will talk to Bob Cillman regarding plans. Berkshire Gas Mary Parker updated the Committee on the Public hearing. Plan is for the line to run entirely under the paved surface so there will be no effect on trees. Mary stressed the importance of committee members to attend and participate in the Public Hearing.
