WEEKLY ACTIVITY REPORT SUMMARY
VAMC Northampton, MA Contract # VA241-C-0125
Week of: June 7-11, 2010
Site Superintendent: Pat Mahan
QA/QC Manager: Mark Campbell, PE
AES Project Manager: Philip Smith, P.G.
Operations: Work at basins #1 and #2 completed. Note that the berms held up real well given the amount of rainstorms. No significant signs of erosion. Bates has diligently followed
the lift and compaction requirements for the clay barrier. Bates dug dest pits at basin #2 to verify all trash was removed from beneath it. Bates commenced work on establishing the
edge of the landfill on the north side, removing trash from outside the limits and pulling it back inside the landfill area. Stumps continue to be hauled away. Note: the contract drawings
showed a concrete seepage block around the outlet pipe from the pond. However, that detail was suited for use of concrete pipe. Bates is using CPP, and so I advised Bates they could
just stick with the clay, as its swelling characteristics will be more effective given the use of the CPP. I also gave Bates the option to hold off on building the rip-rap swale at
the access road and just bury pipe for now. Swale would then be constructed as one of the last items of work. I inspected the drainage structures upon arrival on site and found them
to be without cracks or damage.
Materials Purchased/Delivered/Installed: Slope stabilization material. Multiple loads of sand to be used as common fill. Drainage structures. Seed for basins.
Subcontractor Work: Removal of stumps
Equipment on site: See report for last week. Equipment to be on site for most of the project.
